Jeremiah 29:11 is my favorite Bible verse. I have it on a wall plaque in my apartmen, and a good friend designed a laminated bookmark that holds prominent display on my bookcase.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD. “Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope, and a future.” ~Jeremiah 29:11, NIV

I wanted to do a post about my eight favorite Bible verses, but maybe we can revisit that later. Today belongs to just one.

A long time ago, I dissected this verse. Using the opposite of each word, it turned into something twisted. Something like,

“Hey. Ain’t no one got time for you. You’re not even worth a second thought,” suggested the demon. “I could pay attention to you, for fun. I could really mess you up. By why give you even that? You’ve never been worth it.” ~notBible, MJR version.

The message is very clear: the enemy is, well, our enemy. God truly does have our best interests at heart.

Sound familiar? Like maybe a voice you’ve listened to but need to block? It’s not easy. Believe me, I know that. But it’s worth it.

Here’s where I don’t throw cliches at you like “Fight the Good Fight,” or “Chin Up, Buttercup.” Because platitudes don’t help. You know what does? Prayer. And I think I’ve told you before, I pray for you all. I truly do.

Can you imagine a God so loving that He already has ideas in place? We may not know what’s to come, but He does. And His ideas? His plans? They don’t involve hurt. They don’t involve pain, or heartache, or financial destitution, or agony in any form.

We just need to get out of His way, and let Him work.

Sometimes that means getting out of our own way.

And sometimes we need a reminder.

Next week I’ll give you Eight Jobs Writers Do.
